Hi folks.
Are you like me? Someone who jumps around from one thing to another trying to find real “secrets” to success? I don’t know about you, but I have a library full of books and a computer full of writings, blog posts, eBooks, etc., that are all devoted to that topic. Lots of what I read is, well, crap. But there are also many things I’ve learned which have helped me stay on track to achieving some level of success.
But I’m always willing to learn more. I don’t think I’ll ever be finished growing in personal and business development.
For your consideration, I’ve compiled a list of 6 of the very best habits, which if you embrace, can change your life and your business forever! I hope you’ll agree.
Let’s get right to it.
Habit #1 – Begin with the end in mind.
What the heck does that mean? Watch the end of a movie first? Read the last chapter of a book before starting at the beginning? Eat the strawberry cheesecake before the prime rib? Not exactly.
What I mean is you need to have thought out the destination you want to get to for whatever area you are working on in your life. It’s more than just setting goals. You need to picture in your mind, then write down what the “end” is. To a degree that you feel it inside that you know that’s what you want.
The brain is a funny thing. It’s all wrinkly and stuff and…wait. Wrong train of thought there. I mean that your subconscious will work on your “end” for you and help you figure out how to get there if that ending is truly etched in your mind and you really want it. Even if you don’t think you know how at first.
If you don’t have an end in mind first, you will have a hard time getting from point “A” to “B” and your thoughts will wander. So, begin to start defining your ending first and the beginning and journey will work itself out.
Habit #2 – Make a commitment
There are 5 levels of commitment. Where on the scale do you fall when working on your business?
1). Saying no and doing nothing.
You can guess where that will get you.
2). Wishing, wanting and dreaming.
You’re pretty much still at #1 with this one.
3). I’ll try.
Yep. You guessed it. That still really means no. Still at #1. You have to convince yourself that you will do more than just try.
4). I’m totally committed! Well, unless something else comes up that distracts me.
Hmmm..still hanging in there at #1. At least you’re consistent!
5). Doing whatever it takes. Period.
This habit is the only one that will allow you to fulfill your dreams in life and business!
Habit #3 – Reduce your distractions
These are pretty straight forward. If you are going to do whatever it takes to succeed in whatever area you are working on, these tips will certainly help.
1). Shut your door to your office when you are working on something on that requires concentration. That signals people that you do not want to be interrupted.
2). Don’t read emails while you are focused on concentrating on something important.
3). Don’t answer the phone if you don’t recognize the number.
You need to eliminate distractions for periods of time or you will either get very little or nothing accomplished.
Habit #4 – Take 100% responsibility for where you are and where you are going
Your brain is wired to blame. Blame people. Blame circumstances. Blame the clock. Blame whatever. Don’t get caught in that trap. You control your outcomes. Man up! (or Woman up!). Always be stretching to get out of your comfort zone. Even if it’s a baby step. Keep constantly improving. As you start moving forward, you will exponentially pick up speed and things will become easier.
Habit #5 – Build great systems and keep track of how you did it
As you implement tasks and habits and you find yourself becoming more confident, efficient and are able to realize you can reach the end you desire, keep track of how you did it so you can replicate the process again on your next task. Write the steps down! Then tweak it a bit the next time. Eventually you’ll have a great system in place that will work every time!
Habit #6 – Exceed expectations in all you do and with all you work with
First you need to set your expectations so you know where you would normally start. Then think about how you reset those initial expectations to exceed them. Then follow-through and blow those expectations out of the water!
Since you’ll have lots of areas in your business and personal life where you can exceed expectations, don’t try to do everything all at once! Work on one change at a time. You’ll get there.
